Scientists in South Korea were the first in the world to create genetically modified bacteria capable of producing gasoline, news agencies reported. According to the research results, which are published in the electronic version of the international scientific journal Nature, the new bacteria absorb glucose and release gasoline. From one liter of solution containing these bacteria, 580 milligrams of fuel is obtained, which is still slightly different from regular gasoline. However, it can also be widely applied, according to the country's ministry of science, information and communication technologies and scientific forecasting. The technology for obtaining fuel using bacteria was developed by American specialists in 2010. Thus, scientists were able to create only biodiesel or a saturated hydrocarbon (alkane), which is part of oil and natural gas.
