NEW ALTERNATIVE - ELECTRIC FUEL

17 April 2015

To get rid of dependence on foreign oil, American scientists and engineers are developing something fundamentally new called "ELECTRIC FUEL". This alternative fuel is made by passing a discharge of electricity through a solution containing ... microorganisms that feed on harmful ammonia or hydrogen sulfides. The charge causes organisms to convert carbon dioxide into the same type of fuel that we use in our cars. A team from the University of North Carolina combined enzymes from one microbe that grows at 75 degrees Celsius with a second that feeds on hydrogen. This genetic union produces biofuel precursors such as ethanol and butanol. These bugs convert fuel without the presence of oil, biomass or sunlight - all in a confined space. All these works are financed by the DOE organization at 15 US laboratories. According to rough estimates, if biofuels use only 1% of solar energy, then new types of electric fuels will approach 100% efficiency.
