The world's first CNG fire truck26 May 2010The Indianapolis, Indiana Fire Department operates a fire engine powered by a 320 horsepower 8.9-liter Cummins Westport natural gas engine. It would seem that it is not compatible - fire and natural gas, but the company HME Ahrens Fox, a manufacturer of fire engines with a century of history, has proved the opposite. The vehicle is compactly packed with 500-gallon gas cylinders and requires fire-fighting equipment: a pump and a hydrant with a foaming system. And most importantly, a car without any catalysts and exhaust gas cleaning devices meets the environmental standards in force in the United States.
